Health and Safety Orientation for New Workers

In my last post we talked about young workers or any new worker for that matter being at higher risk for having an accident at work.  Did you know new workers are 24% more likely to be injured on the job than other more experienced workers, especially in the first few days of employment?  All new employees need to know about their health and safety responsibilities, legislation, job related hazards, and how to work safety.

Every workplace has hazards.  It is important for new workers to gain knowledge of their workplace rights under health and safety legislation, understand the role of health and safety programs within a workplace, and learn how to identify job-related hazards in order to work safely.  Preparing for emergencies and knowing who to ask when there are questions are also important aspects of new employee orientation.

When an employer implements Policies and Procedures for Health and Safety in their workplace and takes the time to train all new employees to handle these specific hazards, the chances of avoiding a lost time accident are drastically minimized.

I have posted below a sample checklist as an easy reference for you.  I hope this will make new employee orientation an easy and pleasant experience for everyone.  Not to mention helping prepare your new employee for safe integration into your operations.
